New York Knicks Rookie Kristaps Porzingis Shares SL Experience And Talk With Kevin Garnett

One of the biggest misconceptions about European players nowadays is that they should not go as lottery picks as there is a huge chance they will end up as busts. The recently drafted fourth overall pick Kristaps Porzingis felt that when his name was called by Adam Silver.

New York Knicks fans were booing all over the venue as they believe there were better prospects on board and they got nothing out of former 1st overall pick, Andrea Bargnani, who is now out of the team.

"I knew there were going to be boos if the Knicks drafted me," Porzingis told Bleacher Report. "That's how New York fans are. I know if I play hard and show that I want to be a Knick, I know the fans will accept me."

"I really wanted to get drafted by the Knicks, and it was a dream come true. I wasn't even hearing the boos that night. I was just having a special moment with my family, hugging them."

NY fans have the right to feel that way. No European player blossomed in the past drafts and there were even no shows like 2005 11th overall pick Fran Vasquez.

But when the Summer League arrived, Porzingis turned all those doubters to believers.

Porzingis was impressive on both ends as he was swishing jumpers, blocking shots, and setting up good ball screens for his teammates to create some offense.

"I would say 99 percent of the fans in Vegas have been positive. Fans are really nice when I see them," Porzingis said.

However, until he proves himself in the big leagues, fans will always get to label him as a future bust.

"On social media it's a little worse. I don't read everything, but there are still fans who are like, 'You're going to be a bust,'" Porzingis referring to fans in social media.

Nevertheless, Porzingis is confident that someday, everybody will know that he belongs in this league and as a start, future Hall-of-Famer Kevin Garnett said that he should focus improving his game instead of focusing on detractors.

Garnett said: "Take that negative and turn it into energy. Just don't listen to the outside and work as hard as you can."

"I really love KG, and it was great having him tell me that advice," Porzingis said.
