Fans of the famed NBC soap opera has a reason to rejoice because "Days of Our Lives" season 51 has been confirmed. The news came quite a surprise because some thought that the show was on the verge of being axed by the network.

Soap Shows confirmed that NBC decided to keep the show alive for another year. For "Days of Our Lives" season 51, several characters will be exiting the show including Aiden, Clyde, Serena, Sonny, and Xander.

Nonetheless, despite the departure of some characters, several fan favorites will be returning to celebrate with the show's 50^th anniversary this coming November. These characters include Andre DiMera, Bo Brady, Belle Black, Philip Kiriakis,, Sami Brady, Shawn Brady, and Steve Johnson.

For "Days of Our Lives" season 51, new writers have been hired in an attempt to return the soap to its former glory.

According to the Soap Opera Network, the show's veteran writers, Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell, will be replaced by new writers namely Josh Griffith and Dena Higley. The new writers are no strangers to soap opera as they have already worked for "The Young and the Restless" and "One Life to Live."

Dena Higley is also a returning writer of "Days of Our Lives." She worked for the soap in 2003 and came back for a second stint several years after.

Meanwhile, the show's executive producer revealed some details on what fans should expect.

"We can't wait to show the fans what is going to be happening for the 50th anniversary, but it doesn't just stop after the 50th anniversary," said executive producer Ken Corday as reported by Soap Central.

"This work ethic has continued, and the stories are just getting better and better as time goes on. We're just starting to shoot 2016. It's pretty amazing what we already have in the can, but I think fans are going to be extremely excited once all of this unfolds."
