Dallas Mavericks News: Wesley Matthews Disses Portland; Says Former Team Was Very Disrespectful

The Dallas Mavericks new acquisitions this year are making plenty of headlines.

First, supposed new center DeAndre Jordan made a big fiasco when he initially agreed to a verbal agreement with the Mavericks, only to spurn them in the last second as he ultimately decided to remain with his old team, the Los Angeles Clippers.

Now, key acquisition Wesley Matthews is saying that his former team, the Portland Trail Blazers, disrespected him for not even saying a word when he became an unrestricted free agency.

Here's the sentiment of Matthews courtesy of the Oregonian's Jason Quick, via Pro Basketball Talk.

"But in the end, after five seasons, the feeling was not mutual. He was greeted with silence. No phone call. No text messages. The Blazers never made an offer. I was pissed off," Matthews said. "I felt disrespected."

"I was angry," Matthews said, "but I also realize that this is a business."

Nevertheless, he is extremely happy with the amount of trust Mark Cuban has put on him as he was signed for a four-year, $70 million deal. Some believe that this is not the money you give to players coming out of ACL injuries but for what it's worth, Dallas sure is betting big on the shooting guard.

"One of the first things he said to me was he wanted me to be a cornerstone piece of that franchise moving forward," Matthews said via Dallas News.

"I told Cuban this the other day: This is the first time, head-to-toe, that an organization has had faith and confidence in me," Matthews said. "From coaches, to GM to owner - complete confidence. That's all I wanted. That's all I wanted."

He also revealed that he spoke with Jordan and tried his best to convince the center to play for the Mavs.

"I was honest with him," Matthews said. "I said, 'Look man, I would make less money if you come here and I'm begging you to come here. Begging you. I think that shows what I'm about.'"
