Philadelphia 76ers News: Jahlil Okafor Key To Sixers Success In The Future

The Philadelphia 76ers managed to grab a top caliber talent in this year's draft in Jahlil Okafor. He was drafted as the 3rd overall pick out of Duke and some even believed that he was not the right choice for the team.

That's because the Sixers already have Nerlens Noel drafted two years ago, while they picked Joel Embiid as the third pick in last year's draft. Both play center but when news of Embiid being out for another season made this pick the best choice for GM Sam Hinkie.

Sam Hinkie said that he is someone who always do his research and the information he garnered is what led them to their current status.

"I'm just trying to use information to make decisions," he told reporters when he was just an upstart GM. "I think some people move along quickly and others don't. That's OK."

"We're clearly building through the draft," Hinkie said in this year's NBA draft lottery. "We're clearly trying to find star players we can move forward with."

In fact, they are now poised to make significant progress compared to other teams that are in rebuild mode like the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks per Billy Connelly of SB Nation.

"Considering how many teams have stunk for long periods of time while doing the same-old, I can't believe someone hasn't gone this far down this road before."

Even though the season has yet to begin, the 76ers couldn't be happier with Okafor as he is willing to take on the main role to take the 76ers to greater heights in the future.

"I am ready," Okafor said via Hoops Habit. "I was the No. 1 player out of high school, so I always had a lot of attention and then I went to Duke University, one of the bigger schools in the country, won a national championship. So I'm used to it. I think I'll handle it pretty fine."
