‘Road To Oz’ Casts Eddie Redmayne To Play ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Writer L. Frank Baum

"The Theory of Everything" actor Eddie Redmayne was cast to play L. Frank Baum in the "Wizard of Oz" writer's biopic, Contact Music reports.

A film based on the real life story of L. Frank Baum, who is the author of one of the most iconic children's book, "Wizard of Oz," has been announced and Redmayne is said to be taking on the role of the famed writer.

It seems that the actor is attracting roles based on real life people after he won Academy Award for the Best Actor accolade following his role as Stephen Hawking in the biopic "The Theory of Everything." Now, according to The Tracking Board, the English actor will be playing the role of Baum in the latter's biopic entitled "Road To Oz."

"Road To Oz" (which does not have anything to do with the Yellow Brick Road) will revolve around the life story of the prolific author, during the years before he garners fame after he gets to publish the classic story "The Wizard of Oz," The Guardian writes.

The script for "Road To Oz" is said to have been written by Josh Golden, a newcomer in the industry. The script is said to have been further developed by Michael Mislove and Nellie Bellflower, who were the producers of the film "Finding Neverland," according to ScreenRant.

It looks like "Road To Oz" will be taking the same approach as that of "Finding Neverland," which is a biopic based on J.M. Barrie, who is the author of "Peter Pan."

The film will be released under New Line in collaboration with Flynn Picture Company while Sam Brown, Baeu Flynn and Michael Disco will be leading the production. The director for "Road To Oz" has yet to be revealed.
