New York Knicks News: Phil Jackson Getting The Hang Of His Job; Better Days Ahead For NY

The New York Knicks were one of the most miserable team last season after finishing with the second worst record last season. But, fans should not forget that they have the Zen Master on their side.

Legendary coach Phil Jackson took over the Knicks last season as the president of basketball operations. This year's off-season is a glimpse of what he envisions the Knicks to be in the future. He started with drafting Latvian prospect Kristaps Porzingis as the fourth pick, who at first fans did not like but his strong performance during the summer league, the boos turned to cheers. He also grabbed Jerian Grant, who is turning out to be a player who will be ready to contribute right away.

Also, he managed to get key role players Robin Lopez and Aaron Afflalo from Portland, and who knows what's in store for the New York Knicks come 2016.

With one year of experience, Jackson has likely overcome the hurdles he mentioned in his first season in an interview with ESPN.

"I have to learn the deadline dates for various events, like when the rosters have to be finalized, when 10-day contracts can be signed, when contracts are guaranteed for the rest of the season, and things like that," Jackson said.

"Then there's learning who to call in the league offices if I need to get something done. Also, I've never really dealt with agents before. And, in order to make trades, I've got to know how to relate to the other individuals on all the other teams who are now my peers," he added.

Also, this is the first time he took on a team who is not as ready as his former teams, the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. (Via Bleacher Report)

"The team Jackson inherited was at a crossroads. If Collins had perhaps burned out emotionally, he had also brought Pippen and Grant to a much higher level of play. Years later, it was obvious that by dint of Collins' passion and drive, Jackson had picked up a team that was on the very threshold of greatness," as stated in the website.

Although it might take some time, Jackson will definitely do his best to bring the Knicks back on top of the team standings.
