Pokemon World Championships 2015 Massacre Plotted By Competitors Foiled By BPD

The latest Pokemon World Championship in Boston could've ended in a massacre, but the Boston Police safely thwarted this potential disaster over the weekend.

According to The Daily Beast, police arrested 27-year-old James Austin Stumbo and 18-year-old Kevin Norton on Saturday "because of threats of violence made over social media." Reportedly, a search in their vehicle turned up a shotgun, an AR-15 assault rifle, a hunting knife and 250 rounds of ammunition.

"The BPD detectives did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy," said Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald.

Several competitors and Pokemon fans noted that their names were listed on the official Pokemon World Championships invitees list, but they have allegedly been removed after the incident.

Before being able to enter the Hynes Convention where the 2015 Pokemon Championships were taking place, "officers were informed" of Stumbo's post on Facebook.

"Prior to the event this weekend, our community of players made us aware of a security issue," read a statement from the Pokemon international Company on Sunday.

"We gathered information and gave it as soon as possible to the authorities at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center who acted swiftly and spearheaded communication with the Boston Police Department. Due to quick action, the potential threat was resolved. The Pokemon Company International takes the safety of our fans seriously and will continue to ensure proper security measures are a priority."

Of course, attendees of the 2015 Pokemon World Championships were relieved at the swift action of the BPD.

"The relationship between police and private sector security is important in both our community policing philosophy, as well as our counter-terrorism strategy," said BPD Bureau of Intelligence and Analysis Commander Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald according to Fox News.

"This incident is a good example of private security reaching out to their local Boston police district and relaying information to detectives and BRIC analysts in order to identify the very real threat."
