Indian TV executive and wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, Indrani Mukerjea was arrested Wednesday in Mumbai and accused of murdering Sheena Bora, a woman thought to have been her sister but now believed to be her daughter. Was the motive for the murder money?

According to Variety, Sheena Bora was not in fact Indrani Mukerjea's sister, as was previously thought, but actually her daughter from an earlier marriage.

Indian media today reported that Bora, who was reportedly 24-years-old at the time of her death in 2012, was dating Rahul, one of Peter Mukerjea's sons from his previous marriage. However, it seems 43-year-old Indrani Mukerjea did not tell her husband Peter Mukerjea that Sheena Bora was her daughter.

Peter and Indrani Mukerjea married in 2002 when he was head of Star India. Indrani worked in the human resources department of the company.

In fact, Star India may be the reason Indrani killed her daughter. After leaving Star in 2007, Indrani and Peter established INX Media. But in 2009, the couple left that company too, which was acquired by Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek.

According to Variety, Indian media allegedly quoting police sources, say that a Temasek audit found that large sums of money had been extracted from the company by the former owners and disbursed into the accounts of close relatives.

It is believed that an argument over the money placed in Sheena Bora's accounts may have led to arguments with Indrani Mukerjea and led to Bora's death, Indian papers allege.

Indrani is accused of organizing for her driver, Shyam Rai, to kill Bora and of disposing of the body. Mukerjea and the driver were charged with kidnapping, murder, and destroying evidence.
