Han Solo Movie 2018: Origin Film To Be Helmed By '22 Jump Street' Directors Chris Miller And Phil Lord; Who Will Play The Young Solo?

As a part to expand their "Star Wars" franchise, Walt Disney has announced a Han Solo movie for 2018.

"The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley," the official press release reads.

"22 Jump Street" helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been tasked to direct the upcoming stand-alone film.

"We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us," Miller and Lord said in a statement.

The two will be working with Lawrence Kasdan, a veteran writer who co-wrote the screenplays for "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

"It's not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I'm excited to say we've found the perfect team to handle the task," producer Katheleen Kennedy said in a statement. "Larry [Lawrence] and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han's story."
