Steam Market To Offer First Uncensored Erotic Game 'Kindred Spirits On The Roof'

Gone are the days of sneaking into the back of the video store in order to purchase adult themed products. The internet has made it pretty easy to access NSFW videos all for the price of nothing.

But now it looks like the erotic video game market is trying to push one step closer into a broader market.

Today it was announced that the erotic Japanese PC game "Kindred Spirits on the Roof," would be offered in the Steam market. Steam has had plenty of "sex games" before, but has also either heavily censored them or basically pulled them all together. Liar Soft game developers however claim that their game will be offered on Steam uncensored.

Kouryuu, the head translator for "Kindred Spirits on the Roof" told the MangaGamer blog of how exciting the news is to have the game be offered uncensored.

"This is monumental news for the industry as a whole. Everything will be open and up-front with this release," said Kouryuu.

The main translator also commented on how he believes the uncensored version is owed to the increasingly open-minded culture of the world.

"Seeing frank depictions of same-sex relationships welcomed on such a major gaming platform is a true testament to the open-mindedness of our society and the growing desire for mature entertainment that people of all walks of life can enjoy," he added.

The same-sex relationship in question is a reference to the plot of "Kindred Spirits," which involves helping two female student ghosts who want to experience sex for the first time before their spirits pass on into the afterlife. Ultimately, players must inspire romantic relationships with other girls at the all-girls school so that the spirits can learn how to reach their goal of a first sexual experience.

Offering "Kindred Spirits" uncensored on Steam appears to be a change from previous statements the gaming marketplace made about how the gaming market approaches erotic-themed games. Earlier this year Kotaku released a report on the company's censorship practices; in which, they outright stated that they did not consider themselves a hub for erotic video games.

Perhaps this will pave the way for more offerings of erotic video games on Steam. If not, there's always the back of the video store.

If you can find one of course.
