Tesla Model X Release Date: Sept. 29; Signature Series Priced At $132,000 to $144,000

Customers who have pre-ordered the Tesla Model X will finally get their hands on the sport utility vehicle by Sept. 29.

The release date was announced by Tesla Motors, reported CNBC.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the first batch of Model X vehicles will be released at the company's Arizona plant.

According to a Tesla spokesperson, the Model X is priced between $132,000 and $144,000.

It was in early 2012 when the US car maker announced the development of its first luxury electric crossovers.

Many were actually surprised with the model's release, as automakers are known for their practice of debuting higher-priced versions of their cars before coming out with standard models.

Tesla has invested heavily on the launch of the Model X, its first battery-powered SUV to hit the market.

The limited edition signature Tesla Model X series will be come in red, a unique color which will not be available in the standard model.

The SUV also features a self-parking guidance system and enhanced sound. Other add-ons include packages for subzero weather or towing.

The company is also developing the Model 3, a more affordable, mass market vehicle which will sell at $35,000. However, no release date was ever mentioned yet.

Meanwhile, the Tesla X has an estimated 240 miles (EPA) range, and can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph, according to Inside EVs.

Buyers, however, are cautioned to prepare enough cash, as the Signature Model X requires a $40,000 down payment, as compared to the $5,000 payout for a 'regular' X.

"With same options, Model X is $5 more than an S due to greater size $ body complexity. Sig Series is fully loaded, hence high price," Musk tweeted.

Tesla earlier announced that the original Model X comes with a $25,000 premium, while the Signature series carries a premium that is similar to non-exclusive editions.
