Google Hangouts For Android Version 4.0 Experiences MMS Issue While Twitter Praises The App

With the recent upgrade to Hangouts 4.0, some users have reported that Google Hangouts for Android is experiencing some problems, especially in sending and receiving MMS.

In a report by Android Police, it was learned that this problem was discussed in the Android Help Forum.

Amid the huge improvement incorporated into the new version, the article noted that "all is still not well on the MMS side of things."

"After upgrading to Hangouts 4.0, some users are now unable to send or receive any kind of MMS message," the article said.

Following this particular issue about Google Hangouts for Android, the forum suggested several ways to troubleshoot it.

The first recommended step was to downgrade to Hangouts 3.0 temporarily or until Google finally finds a solution to the issue.

The second recommendation was for the Android users to check their phones' APN settings to make sure that it only has one APN which specifies an MMS port. Generally, the site said, it is usually set to 80.

The third step was to clear the app's data.

Lastly, the Google Hangouts for Android users must ensure that their SMS does not appear under their Google account "and instead shows as its own account within Hangouts. Once that's done, re-link it to your Google account."

While the Android users were experiencing some problems with their messaging service, Twitter, through its blog, talked about how it has helped them during their multi-city meetings.

After the company's quest for an application that will address their requirements for such meetings, Vijay Pandurangan, Director, Engineering & New York engineering site lead, and the IT team agreed "to go with a company-wide deployment of Google Hangouts plus Chrome for Meetings (CfM) boxes in conference rooms."

"Deployment of Google Hangouts and CfM in a company that already uses Google Apps, as we do, makes adoption much easier - Google Calendar integration is built into the hardware," he said.

"Our standard Hangouts room has an LCD screen mounted on the wall and Google's standard mic/speaker pod and camera," he added.

With Twitter's own story of Google Hangouts, Android users may now feel that their MMS issue with Hangouts 4.0 will finally get a fix soon.
