Jordan Clarkson Gilas News: LA Guard Upset About Not Being Able To Play For Philippine Team

The Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jordan Clarkson won't be able to join the Philippine national basketball team as he will need to fulfill his duties with the LA Lakers starting this last week of September.

Now that he is no longer participating in the FIBA Asia 2015 tournament, he wrote a letter expressing his disappointment not being part of the team but also extending his support to the national squad via PBA Inquirer.

"Upon my return from supporting Gilas in The Jones Cup, I had a great talk with my dad," said Clarkson. "I told him of my experiences with the team and how passionate I was about representing an entire country. My Dad told me to follow my heart."

He also said that the Lakers are fully supportive with his decision and if rules will allow it, he will be granted to play.

"I spoke to Lakers General Manager, Mitch Kupchak, and he shared the same sentiments about representing an entire country and supported my decision either way."

He also praised the Filipino fans for showing so much love for the game and it was one of the driving factors why he would love to play for the PH.

"The Filipino Fans are some of the most passionate in the world and many of them are Laker's supporters," Clarkson said. "I want to sincerely thank all of the fans who sent me letters of encouragement during these last three months about Gilas."

Lastly, he said that he doesn't want to take away the opportunity from other Gilas members as they were with the team since day one.

"I'm very disappointed I won't be able to play with the Gilas National Team during the FIBA Asia Championships from September 23 to October 3," Clarkson said.

"We can all agree, the 12 men selected to represent the Philippines in this 2015 FIBA Asia Championship have earned the right and any continued efforts on my part would not be fair to the team. I will cheer them onto Gold."
