Samsung SmartThings: Best Thing To Ever Happen For Homeowners; Hub Increases ‘IQ’ Of Appliances

Samsung has taken home security to a new level with the recent launch of its Smart Things Hub.

The SmartThings platform acts as the virtual heart and soul of your connected home, as it is built around Samsung's Hub, reported Tech Radar.

The beauty of the Hub is that it conveniently plugs into the back of your router, wirelessly connecting hundreds of compatible devices.

A single SmartThings app then lets you monitor, control and secure your home using your Android, Windows and iOS phones.

Another key feature of the Hub is the openness of its platform, making it compatible with automation protocols such as Zigbee and Z-Wave.

In the meantime, Samsung has also launched a range of SmartThings devices which will be available in the UK through Curry's PC and Samsung.com.

These include a Multi-Sensor which detects if doors, windows, drawers are open or closed, together with a Motion Sensor.

Samsung has also released the Presence Sensor, a key fob-like device which warns you if your phone or children stray too far. It even lets you know when your kids have returned home from school.

Another SmartThings device worth purchasing is the Power Outlet, which lets you turn on plugs in your home remotely.

It has the ability to turn "dumb" appliances into "smart" ones, as it is plugged into the main outlets, enabling it to draw enough power to act as Wi-Fi repeaters.

Meanwhile, Samsung has rolled-out SleepSense, a device which not only allows users to secure their homes but also sleep better, according to the Independent.

The sleep tracker - a white disk which is placed under the bed - monitors your breathing patterns and other measurements to find out exactly how deeply you are able to sleep.

As with other SmartThings devices, SleepSense also has the ability to hook up to internet-enabled devices and control the entire house.

It is equipped with sensors and controllers, which switches off a TV when you nod off, or turn up the air conditioning on a warm night.

With these range of devices, SmartThings are anticipated to be another hit for Samsung.
