Moto X Only Getting Android Lollipop Update After A Year! Android 5.1.1 To Bring Improvements

While the Android Lollipop 5.1 update has been around since last year, the original Moto X device is only getting it this time.

In a report by Greenbot, it was learned that the Verizon-branded Motorola-produced unit, which was launched in 2013, "has been stuck on Kitkat," the previous version of the firmware.

However, the tech site noted that it may also be a "little consolation" to the users of the Moto X Pure Edition's predecessor "because it ran stock Android."

The site further added that although those who purchased the original Moto X were supposed to receive timely updates, just like the Android Lollipop update, it never happened because of hardware issues.

"Motorola executives have blamed the problems on hardware incompatibility," the site disclosed.

As for the Moto X Pure Edition, the mobile carrier pointed out that "it's resolved the problems it had activating Motorola's newest flagship on the company's network."

"If your freshly-customized Moto X Pure Edition arrives on your doorstep, follow Verizon's guide to get it up and running," Greenbot advised.

In the meantime, VC Post reported that the Android 5.1.1, the latest Lollipop update, is expected to provide better user interface and device sharing features. Syncing and security patches are also anticipated to get enhancements.

For material design, the site stated that the update will bring in "more fluid animations along with improved apps and personalization options like colors, widgets and themes."

More notification controls will also be experienced with the latest version.

"Users can now adjust settings to sift people and notifications go get through," VC Post said. "Users can also directly respond to notifications from lock screen."

When it comes to device sharing, users can create multiple user accounts "to allow friends to access device to prevent them from accessing owner's private files." Moreover, with the Android Smart Lock, which is part of the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update, the users can make their device safe by pairing it with another trusted device or even with a car.

As for its device syncing feature, users can already access all its stored files in one Android device from other Android units.

Apart from this latest Android Lollipop update, Google is likewise set to release another firmware, the Marshmallow.
