K-Pop Crossover: Buzzfeed's Try Guys Give K-Pop A Whirl In New Video Series

Buzzfeed's Try Guys can't get enough of K-pop, and are now sharing with the rest of the world.

Four Buzzfeed video stars, known as The Try Guys, attended KCON LA 2015 earlier this year, and on Sept. 23 they released the first of five videos where they explore K-pop. In the first video of "The Try Guys Try K-Pop" series, the four men reacted to several K-pop videos.

The Try Guys watched music videos from some of the latest K-pop hits by Girls' Generation, EXO, 4MINUTE, GOT7, Big Bang, and SISTAR.

Try Guys Eugene, Ned, Zach, and Keith filmed the series while at KCON, where they also put on a performance of K-pop dance covers.

The members used the first video to discuss their previous perceptions of K-pop, including a comparison to K-pop being the "cool kids of Asia" in a lunchroom, and then reacted to the music videos for Girls' Generation's "Party," EXO's "Call Me Baby," 4MINUTE "Crazy," GOT7's "Just Right," SISTAR's "Shake It," and Big Bang's "Bang Bang Bang."

While watching the videos, the Try Guys focused on the size of the groups, the use of English, the high production value, the influence of other culters, and several other aspects that makes K-pop unique.

Interspersed with the reactions of three of the Try Guys, Korean-American Eugene and Dr. Suk Young Kim, a professor and specialist on the Korean Wave (Hallyu), discussed Hallyu, and gave insights into K-pop and the music videos.

"It's better than our pop is," admitted Zach.

"I've never been more excited for a Try Guys series because as a Korean I get to introduce the other guys to my culture," said Eugene at the end of the video.

On Sept. 20, The Try Guys announced the series for the first time with a set of K-pop inspired teaser images. Four more videos will be released by the Try Guys in the near future.
