Samsung Gear S2, The 'Smartest' Among Its Competitors? Smartwatch To Roll Out 3 Models

The Samsung Gear S2 watch may be the "smartest" after all.

This, according to Daily Mail reporter Rob Waugh, who observed how the smartwatch fared with its leading competitors.

While waiting for a flight at Heathrow Airport, he saw how a colleague, who was wearing an Apple iWatch, was bogged down at the departure area.

The reason? The watch couldn't get through the scanning machine mainly because of its heft.

"This thing is going on eBay next week," Waugh quoted his colleague as saying.

Although the current crop of smartwatches still leave much to be desired - from Apples' chunky iWatch to Huawei's cuff-shredding version of the device - the Samsung Gear S2 watch appears to be the clear winner.

Waugh makes his case by highlighting the Gear S2's key features.

First, the smartwatch looks and works better as compared to its current market rivals, as it is equipped with a rotating bezel which reduces the need to frequently touch its 1.2-inch screen as often as possible.

Second, the watch offers users the convenience of receiving messages without the need for a phone by simply using either a SIM card or accessing the nearest Wi-Fi.

Third, you can easily toggle from app to app, and send messages automated text replies to friends such as "I'm in a meeting."

And fourth, it has fitness app which automatically turns on as you begin jogging or running. This is certainly a feature which would be appreciated by health buffs.

Meanwhile, Samsung is rolling out three different models for its Gear S2, according to the Digital Spy.

The smartphone has three iterations - standard, Classic and 3G-enabled offerings - all of which have a host calling capabilities.

In terms of functionality, there's a minimal difference between the three variants although there are some slight aesthetical differences among them.

The standard Gear S2 is 42.3x49.8x11.4mm in size and 47g in weight, whilst the Classic is slightly smaller at 39.3x43.6x11.4mm and 42g.

The 3G model, on the other hand, is the biggest among the three with a 44.0x51.8x13.4mm, 51g form. chunky

The standard Samsung Gear S2 will come in its default dark grey color with its grey or silver strap, while the Classic variant comes in black with a leather band.

All Samsung Gear S2 watch models, whose release date has been scheduled at the later part of this year, share the same display screen, a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM alongside an IP68 dust and water-resistant coating.
