Cleveland Cavaliers News: Update On Kyrie Irving's Injury And Team Goals For Next Season

The Cleveland Cavaliers are poised to contend once again once the new season begins as not only are they loaded with talent, but also a year wiser as they simply retained their main core and bench.

However, they might need to try to win even without their prized point guard, Kyrie Irving. The point guard is still recuperating from the injury he sustained during game 1 of the Finals.

He spoke with Yahoo Sports to give an update on his current injury and the young All-Star confirmed that he is right on track to returning to 100 percent.

''I'm feeling great,'' Irving said. ''I'm taking my time with it. Obviously, it was a terrible injury but thank God I had the summer to start rehabbing and I'm definitely progressing in the right way. Whatever my timeline is, it'll be for the betterment of the team and for us to also compete for a world championship at the end of the season.''

He believes that the experience they got from last season and the return of key players in their locker room makes him believe that they can once again exceed expectations once the season begins.

''As long as we're together in that locker room and our coaching staff and everybody is on the same page, we'll be fine,'' Irving said. ''All the expectations people put on us last year, we were aware of it. But for us, it was about us being together when it really mattered and showing people that this was a team to be reckoned with.''

Compared to last year, the Cavs started bad as they were not even close from being the top seed until All-Star break arrived.

''I feel that was the true testament of our team,'' Irving said. ''We had a bad November, December, January and then we started figuring it out after All-Star break. We'll be ready.''
