Oculus Rift Consumer Version Release Date Confirmed And An Unlikely Microsoft Partnership

Oculus Rift's consumer version release date is happening next year.

According to a blog post on the Oculus Site, the Oculus Rift consumer version release date is set to the first quarter of 2016 and pre-orders will be made available later this year. Those interested in having their own VR-technology should be ready to spend a whopping $1,500.

When the first news of virtual reality technology hit the internet, everyone was buzzing about the possibilities that kind of technology would give gaming. Once news that an Oculus Rift's consumer version release date was scheduled, there was a frenzy of anticipating gamers who were more than willing to shell out money for the immersive virtual experience.

Apart from the highly-anticipated news of an official Oculus Rift consumer version release date, according to Crossmap, Oculus VR has found a new partnership with Microsoft.

This news is shocking as it was initially thought that both Oculus VR and Microsoft were rivals because of the "Holo Lens". However, it was noted that "Holo Lens" is not a VR-technology but an AR (augmented reality) technology. The main function and purposes of each tech differ completely.

While the Oculus VR will work seamlessly with Xbox One, Alphr reported that making it work just as well on the PC is another story as it requires a PC with an "Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD R9 290, Intel Core i5-4590 and 8GB of RAM."

Not only is the Rift the only thing keeping gamers at the edge of their seats, "Oculus Touch," the hand-controllers for the VR-tech, is coming soon. It will work well with Xbox One and Windows 10, as well as have an analog stick, two buttons and a trigger.

From its Kickstarter Campaign days to an actual product release, the Oculus Rift is, according to Oculus, "...a full ecosystem, and a fully-integrated hardware/software tech stack designed specifically for virtual reality. It's a system designed by a team of extremely passionate gamers, developers, and engineers to reimagine what gaming can be."
