Dallas Mavericks News: Update On Chandler Parsons Injury; Dirk Nowitzki Talks Retirement

The Dallas Mavericks is not having the best year right now. Not only were they spurned by DeAndre Jordan during the off-season, but one of their key guys is being troubled by his injury from last season.

Chandler Parsons, who played his first season with Dallas last year, was not able to help his team during the playoffs.

Now, it looks like Parsons will be out for more time as the Microfracture injury he suffered will put him out of commission for more time. Here are the details from ESPN Dallas' Tim MacMahon.

"The Mavs and Parsons have been vague about the details of the operation, which was announced simply as an "arthroscopic surgery to address a cartilage injury in his right knee."

"Sources told ESPN.com that the operation, which was performed by team physician T.O. Souryal, included a bone marrow transplant from Parsons' right hip to help regenerate the cartilage damage from late last season that caused him to miss all but one game of the playoffs."

"The location of the cartilage damage was in the 'best possible spot,' a source said, because it is in a non-weight-bearing area of the knee. That was the primary reason that a traditional microfracture surgery, which would require a longer recovery period, was not necessary."

Meanwhile, Dirk Nowitzki spoke with Dallasnews.com to discuss his impending retirement and he believes he can play for two more years.

"Obviously it gets closer, but it's not like I'm thinking of the beach every day," he said. "I want to play two more years under contract here, hopefully at a high level, compete, hopefully be efficient when I'm out there."

"And then retirement obviously comes soon enough. But as of now, I still think I can play at a high level. I'm going to work my butt off here these four weeks to get in the best shape I can get, and then leave it all out there again."
