“Tokyo Ghoul” season 3 release date has been officially confirmed for next year but now fans are itching to know what the new season is going to be based on.

A new season may sometimes lead to the disappointment of fans especially when the series isn’t based on the original manga. With the “Tokyo Ghoul” season 3 released date confirmed, the question now is whether the series’ plot will be based on the “Tokyo Ghoul: Re” manga.

According to Inquisitr, despite the amount of material made available by the manga, the anime series went with a parallel version that had a different focus. There are a number of obvious differences when comparing the series and the manga, but the ending is the biggest difference.

While it was known that Ken Kaneki died, he actually didn’t die as per “Tokyo Ghoul: Re” manga plot details. Its is reportedly said that Haise Sasaki is actually Ken Kaneki, but Kaneki, who suffers from amnesia, does not recall his former self. His humanity however, as he is half-ghoul, is growing back as seen in the symbolism in his dark hair coming back.

There was even a special epilogue where Haise Sasaki is first introduced as a trainee to Akira Mado. The anime version, on the otherhand, makes some “Tokyo Ghoul: Re” references but fans are given very little hints as to what happened to Kaneki.

Even with this information off the manga, readers aren’t even entirely sure what occurred in the gap between the series. The manga may have 46 chapters but the fifth volume will still be released around December.

While producers may choose to stick to the manga, the lack of material may have the “Tokyo Ghoul” season 3 create its own storyline.

The “Tokyo Ghoul” season 3 release date may be what fans are really waiting for, but there is OVA” Tokyo Ghoul: Jack” is set for a 2015 release. There is no exact date as to when it will be released but it’s a good buffer to the upcoming third anime series.
