George R.R. Martin Admits He Likes The Idea Of A 'Game Of Thrones' Movie But Film Not Happening?

The "Game of Thrones" movie is not going to happen. That's straight from George R. R. Martin's mouth, even as he said that talks about an upcoming movie have been circulating the net.

The rumor about the movie first cropped up going into the second season of "Game of Thrones."

Back then, the author said that he liked the idea.

"This was back in the early days, where we couldn't even afford to shoot the Battle of the Green Fork and had to knock Tyrion unconscious instead," he wrote on his website.

"When the king's hunting party consisted of four guys on foot walking through the woods. At that time, in that context, the idea of big blockbuster movies with a LORD OF THE RINGS sized budget was powerfully attractive."

But George R.R. Martin said a "Game of Thrones" movie is not going to happen.

"There is great enthusiasm for the notion, sure, but not necessarily from HBO. They are in the TV business, not the feature film business," he added.

If that were to happen, however, George R.R. Martin would still go out and see the "Game of Thrones" movie, "but nothing has changed since the last round of rumors."

"I am still writing THE WINDS OF WINTER. David & Dan are still filming season six. HBO is still in the television business," he added.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO boss Michael Lombardo said a "Game of Thrones" movie would be a game changer for the cable network.

"When you start a series with our subscribers, the promise is that for your HBO fee that we're going to take you to the end of this," he said. "I feel that on some level [a movie would be] changing the rules: Now you have to pay $16 to see how your show ends," he said.
