Manny Pacquiao Next Fight Is Senatorial Bid In The Philippines; Fans React To His Announcement

Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao next fight won't be at the boxing ring, but for a seat in the Senate for his home country, Philippines.

According to Rappler, Manny Pacquiao has confirmed his intention to run for senator in Sarangani during his state of the district address.

"In the coming days, I will be embracing new levels of responsibility. I will be confronting tough challenges," he said.

"My second term as your congressmen will soon be over, but I will continue to be of service you and to our fellow Filipinos."

As of the moment, it is still unknown which party he will be joining.

"Yes, I'm going to run for (a) Senate post this coming 2016 election. But as to which party, that's still to be determined," Pacquiao said.

When he made the announcement, fans and fellow countrymen were not pleased at all with his decision. Here are some of the comments courtesy of Opening Round.

"Pacman, you're my idol. But in the boxing ring. Not in Congress. Sorry," one fan posted.

"Pacquiao, you can't even go to sessions in Congress. Now you want to go to Senate? What are you going to do there?" said another.

Also, some netizens over Rappler also shared the same sentiments. Lehy Fucanan said that she is not convinced that Pacquiao can do the job.

"Senators belong to the legislative branch of the government, which is the part of the government that MAKES the laws in the Philippines. Please. I'm a Pacquiao fan just like anyone here. But in terms of the ability in making the laws, I am not convinced that he has the qualifications for it," the concerned netizen said.

"But this is just an opinion coming from a concerned citizen. Don't mind me."
