Toronto Raptors Forward Anthony Bennett Ready To Remove Bust Label From His Name

Newly acquired Toronto Raptors forward Anthony Bennett has been subject to a lot of criticisms ever since he got into the NBA.

Bennett was the number one pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and ever since he got drafted, he was not able to live up to his draft status. Now, he is playing for the third team in his three-year NBA career.

He spent his rookie year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, then he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and his contract was bought out and now, he signed a minimum contract with his hometown, the Toronto Raptors.

He spoke with Yahoo Sports and shared his feelings on his so far unsuccessful stint in the NBA.

"Lots of ups and downs," Bennett said. "There a couple [things] you got to avoid. There are also a lot of people you have to have in your circle, like family and friends, who tell you to keep your head up. That's pretty much what I've been going through."

Looking at his batchmates, Victor Oladipo, Michael Carter-Williams and Giannis Antetoukounmpo have been outperforming him since day one. But there is no point looking back at that as GM Masai Ujiri said that during that time, there were no definite candidates to become the first overall pick.

"It was surprising," Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri said. "We didn't know if there was a clear-cut guy. It was a random draft a little bit."

Bennett, instead looked at the opportunity to give Canada the honor of having a homegrown talent to be drafted as the first overall pick.

"I'm cool with it," he said. "Going No. 1 made history for Canada. For myself, it was a big accomplishment, but it's a lot of work."

Nevertheless, Benett believes Toronto is the perfect place to shine and give it his all, as well as removing the bust label on his name.

"It's a learning process," Bennett said. "Nothing is going to come overnight. I'm not focused on what other people think."
