Matt Barnes-Derek Fisher Fight Update: Barnes Shares His Side Of The Story

Perhaps the biggest off the court NBA mishap as of the moment, Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes and New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher are in the headlines of news right now.

This is after Barnes, drove to his ex-wife Gloria Govan's house and started a melee against Derek Fisher. But,what is his reason behind the altercation?

Here is Barnes' statement courtesy of ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne.

"I'm like, 'first of all, why are you still up? It's like 10 o'clock at night?' So I text back, 'I love you and I miss you, too.' Then I FaceTimed him. I'm just like, 'Hey, what's up buddy?'" Barnes said.

"Now, Carter is like the rambunctious one. He's always jumping off the walls. And when I saw his face, he was just sitting there and I knew something was wrong. I was like, 'What's wrong, Carter?' and he shook his head, 'No.' Then he lays his head down on the couch, puts a pillow in front of his face and says, 'Mommy's friend Derek is here."

He also debunked the rumors of him driving from 95 miles away just to start a fight with Fisher.

"I can't believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up. No," Barnes said. "I live 15 minutes away and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable. That was my main reason for going over there."

Barnes said that he has nothing else in mind but the welfare of his kids and if there is something or someone will put them in jeopardy, he will not hesitate to do what he did.

"My concern is my kids... their happiness, their health, their safety," Barnes continued, via Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He also confirmed that he and Fisher were "good friends at one point."

TMZ reported that Barnes won't face any charges after the incident.
