San Antonio Spurs News: Tony Parker To Retire At 38 Years Old, 20th Year In The League

The San Antonio Spurs are nearing the time where Tim Duncan's era is about to end. He is also joined by guard Manu Ginobili in the soon to retire list but what about his backcourt mate, Tony Parker?

The French point guard spoke with Yahoo Sports to give some insights on his current health condition and when does he think is the right time to call it quits.

According to Parker, he will try to reach 20 playing years and he will be 38 by that time.

"The Spurs know I want to play until I'm 38," Parker told Yahoo Sports. "That will be 20 seasons for me. That's my goal. This year is No. 15. And if I'm lucky enough and I'm healthy, hopefully I can play 20 seasons and then I'll be ready to retire."

Last year was not a good year for Parker as he was sidelined by injuries but he is thankful that it was nothing close to career altering injuries.

"Last year was the first year in my whole career where I had a lot of nagging injuries," Parker said. "When I compare to all the other guys when you look at D-Rose [Derrick Rose], [Paul] George and Wesley Matthews, I feel very lucky and blessed that I have been able with my little body to play all those years."

Also, Parker mentioned that the Spurs were trying to preserve him last season and this might be the reason why he had a quiet one.

"I was just not in a good rhythm," Parker said. "I didn't play a lot in the [exhibition] games and I didn't play a lot in the [preliminary] rounds because coach was sitting me because of my age."

Regardless, Parker will be back to full health this upcoming season and he will be getting plenty of support from new teammates David West and LaMarcus Aldridge.
