NBA Trade Rumors: Channing Frye To Replace Tristan Thompson In Cleveland?

The NBA trade rumors will once again be making a lot of noise once the new season opens this October.

One of the biggest buzz right now is the ongoing contract dispute between the Cleveland Cavaliers and forward Tristan Thompson. It seems like both sides can't meet halfway as the Cavs won't agree to the amount of money Thompson is asking for.

With that said, it looks like the Cavs are now exploring their trade options for Thompson since if they are not able to move him after the trade deadline, he will simply walk away.

Grantland's Zach Lowe reported that the Orlando Magic could potentially offer the veteran Channing Frye to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Thompson.

"The Cavs are not totally without options if Thompson holds out for months. The corpse of Brendan Haywood left behind a $10.5 million trade exception, and the Cavs can trade a future first-rounder that would almost certainly become a 2018 pick," Lowe wrote.

According to Lowe, Frye's worth is not that much anymore as he might also be dealt to Ed Davis or Markieff Morris from the Phoenix Suns.

"That's enough to start talks for someone like [Ed] Davis once he becomes trade-eligible on December 15, or even Markieff Morris if he pipes up again. Sources around the league say Channing Frye is available now for very little, though Magic officials deny it."

He also mentioned that other names that might be on the block is Denver Nuggets center J.J. Hickson.

"Other names will hit the market, but while the salary of someone like Kenneth Faried doesn't quite fit the exception, how much would Denver really demand to dump J.J. Hickson into it?"
