Gina Carano's UFC Return 'Pretty Close To Happening' But Ronda Rousey Didn't Want To Wait?

Gina Carano would have been seen in the much-anticipated fight with Ronda Rousey, but the undefeated UFC champ "didn't want to wait."

The rumors about the former Strikeforce champion returning to the Octagon have been going on for quite a while now. And last summer, she was supposed to be fighting Ronda Rousey and it was "pretty close to happening," said Larry Brown Sports.

Ronda Rousey dished some details about the fight-that-never-was when she guested on "The Joe Rogan Experience" and the UFC champ confessed that the fight with Gina Carano was supposed to be scheduled in December last year.

"We get through the McMann fight and I was going to get my knee and my hand worked on, but then Dana White was like, 'Listen, you can fight Gina in December,'" she said. "And I was like, 'I don't want to wait until December. I'll be a better fighter in December if I fight in July. I don't want to sit and ring-rust for that long.'"

So the UFC champ fought Alexis Davis instead, whom she KOd in 16 seconds in July.

That would have given her plenty of time to prepare for the Gina Carano fight in December but for some reason, the match didn't happen.

Back in March, Gina Carano, considered to be the pioneer in women's fighting, was asked by MMA Weekly if she watched the fight between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.

"That was a good one," she said. "It's insane. she's a beautiful athlete and there's so much respect there and I wish her all the best. And I hope Cat Zingano gets another chance at the UFC."

UFC champ Ronda Rousey, for her part, doesn't hide her admiration for Gina Carano and was quoted as saying that it would be an honor to step into the ring with her, whether as an opponent or by her corner.
