Kate Beckett has just assumed the post of captain, but fans shouldn't expect smooth sailing for Rick's wife as spoilers for "Castle" season 8 revealed that there's going to be a new addition to the team.

A report from TVLine revealed that actor Kris Polaha was cast in a recurring role that will serve as "major foil" for Beckett.

"TVLine has learned exclusively that the Life Unexpected and Ringer vet is joining Season 8 in the recurring role of Caleb Brown, an idealistic public defender whose criminal clients put him at odds with Beckett and the 12th Precinct," it said.

Beckett really has her hands full because even as she wards off Caleb Brown, she's also dealing with the split from Rick as well as her furious search for the partner of Bracken.

But showrunner Terence Paul Winter teased spoilers to TVLine that Kate Beckett's split from Rick Castle will have a resolution in "Castle" season 8.

"We have a real plan for how to guide through this new path," he said. "And we really do believe it's going to be something that will be satisfying overall. If people give us a chance, they're going to really - hopefully - appreciate the journey we're going on.

Episode 4 of "Castle" season 8 spoilers reveal that a very expensive artwork will be stolen and a body ends up being found.

"Castle will be on the case and will have to rely on the only witness for help," said the report. "The only problem is that the witness is more of a nose-witness than an eyewitness. A woman played by guest star Stephnie Weir ('The Comedians'), with a keen sense of smell believes she can sniff out the murderer. That may seem a little strange, but Castle seems game and, hey, stranger things have happened on the show."
