Samsung Gear S2 Review: Smartwatch Impressive, But Drawback Seen!

Recent reviews of Samsung Gear S2 have highlighted some of its impressive features.

Antonio Villas-Boas of Tech Insider made a rundown of why it is wise to opt for it rather than its existing competitors.

He noted that using the said gadget from Samsung "is better than the Apple Watch, including the rotating bezel, the buttons and the Tizen OS."

"No other smartwatch has impressed me as much as Samsung's Gear S2," the tech reviewer pointed out.

Boas added in his review that as a user-friendly device, Samsung Gear S2 is just simple to navigate, citing that in order "to get quick, useful bits of information from apps - like notifications, weather, calendar reminders, music controls and a step counter - I simply need to rotate the bezel left or right."

The Tech Insider's Samsung Gear S2 review further emphasized that another good attribute of the device is its compatibility with any Android phone, not necessarily from Samsung. The only requirement, he stated, is that it must run on the Android 4.4 version or newer.

"That said, iPhone users are out of luck," Boas stated. "For $300, it's about the same price as most other smartwatches for Android, like Motorola's new Moto 360."

In the meantime, Jason Cipriani of Fortune revealed in his review that in terms of looks, Samsung Gear S2 could be a runaway winner with its stainless steel housing and a matching "elastomer" watch band when pitted against its predecessors.

"Unlike some of Samsung's previous smartwatches, I like the look and feel of the S2," Cipriani said. "It's comfortable to wear, and doesn't look awkward as the Gear Fit or original Gear S."

Amid this positive feedback, Cipriani also made comments about one frustration that he had with the smartwatch. Accordingly, "the initial setup experience combined with a frustrating experience when installing a single watchface is a drawback."

"In other words, don't expect much outside of a step tracker or notification manager," he wrote.

Overall, though, Cipriani noted in his review that Samsung Gear S2's design, intuitive interaction and battery life are enough reasons to purchase it.
