Houston Rockets News: Latest On Dwight Howard Injury; GM Daryl Morey Confident Center Is Still Best In The League

The Houston Rockets is poised to be one of the teams to go deep in the post-season once again. But before that, center Dwight Howard must fully recover from his injury for that to come to fruition.

Head Coach Kevin McHale spoke with ESPN to give some updates on Dwight's current injury. The coach said it's his back that is bothering him but not the same one that bothered him last year.

"I think he's getting closer," McHale said after Tuesday's practice. "It is his back. His legs are fine, his back has been bothering him, not the left side that bothered him before kinda the right side. It's something that he tweaked."

The head coach believes Dwight will be able to participate in full contact practice before the season opener.

"He's getting closer, he's doing some court stuff but nothing contact yet. We want to get him contact, at some point he will, hopefully in the next two, three, four days we can get him on the floor so he can get some work in."

"My goal for Dwight is to play every healthy minute without hurting himself," McHale said.

Fans might be wondering if Dwight will ever be back to his prime days or if he is even focused enough to keep playing basketball at a high level. General Manager spoke with SiriusXM NBA Radio to give light on Dwight's current situation and he said that there is nothing to be worried about.

The GM was asked if he thinks Dwight Howard is currently experiencing any crossroads in his career and he confirmed that Dwight is completely healthy and is still the best center in the NBA. His ability to control the paint remains top-notch and whenever he plays, the Rockets are ranked third in defense.
