Gennady Golovkin Next Fight: Scenarios If Miguel Cotto Or Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez Wins

Now that Gennady Golovkin has taken care of David Lemieux, it is time for Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to show the world who deserves a fight against the Kazakh boxer.

Their fight is happening on Nov. 21 and it will be a battle of pride for both men as they will represent their countries who have a long history of boxing rivalry.

Looking at two different scenarios, should Cotto win the fight against Golovkin, he is the most ideal opponent for Golovkin according to Opening Round.

"It's very good, very nice. It's a big step up for us. Look, I want 3, 4, 5 times per year, you know, fights," Golovkin said to Fighthype. "For me, it doesn't matter. It's more important to be number one at 160. Right now, just, you know, I don't have opponent."

Both are in their 30s and a fight now will be a great highlight for their career. Meanwhile, should Canelo Alvarez win the match, he said that he is ready to fight Golovkin, but in one condition.

"If he [Golovkin] wants to fight with me, let him come down to 155 and I'll fight him whatever day he wants...At this moment, my body isn't ready for 160 pounds. Maybe 1 or 2 more years I'll be ready for 160," Canelo said.

Here's the interview:

Also, what makes the fight more unlikely is that Oscar Dela Hoya doesn't want his fighter to fight Golovkin now, who is currently in his prime. Reports indicate that they will wait for at least two years for Golovkin vs. Alvarez to actually happen.

Right now, Golovkin is enjoying his stature as the best boxer as of the moment and he is unfazed whoever issues a challenge against him.
