$120 Egg Sandwich On The Menu Of Australian Restaurant: Special Burger Offered To Celebrate Australia’s Bacon Week

A $120 egg sandwich? When something like this is normally priced between $1-2, a sandwich costing six Benjamins is unheard of. But yes, an Australian restaurant is offering a $120 egg sandwich, and oh yes, it comes with bacon, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Sydney restaurant, 4Fourteen, is offering the expensive breakfast on a roll as part of Bacon Week. The latter event aims to promote quality Australian pork.

The Telegraph described the $120 egg sandwich as an egg and bacon roll that is so extravagant even it’s creator isn’t sure she’d eat it.

The $120 egg sandwich is filled with award-winning bacon from Slade Point Meat Specialist in Mackay, Queensland, a pan-fried duck egg, semi-dried and smoked gourmet truss tomatoes, duck foie gras, caviar, crème fraiche, shaved truffles and English cheddar. It is then squeezed between a handmade brioche bun and served with a side of chips and shaved truffle aioli. The Telegraph reports that its probably a burger your cardiologist would not recommend.

Head chef of 4Fourteen, Carla Jones, believes that a few individuals will order the special menu item.

"It's not something I ever thought I'd be doing but it will be interesting to see how many we'll sell," said Jones. "I reckon some people will buy it just to see what it's like. I'm not sure I'd eat it - I'm not that into truffles and stuff like that."

The $120 egg sandwich is one of a number of special dishes being prepared by Syndey’s chefs to celebrate Bacon Week.

Andrew Spencer, CEO of Australian Pork said, "About two-thirds of bacon sales made in Australia are from pork that's imported and the average consumer doesn't know that's going on."
