Yeon Sang-Ho, the director of "Train To Busan," will be back on the big screen to thrill the audience once more with the adrenaline-inducing sequel to his 2016 blockbuster hit. 

Titled "Bando," which literally means "peninsula," the film will be top-billed by Kang Dong Won ("Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned," "The Priests") and Lee Jung Hyun ("The Battleship Island," "Hope"). 

In an interview, the director revealed that "Bando" will be "an extension" of the zombie outbreak in his previous film. Specifically, the much-awaited sequel will take place four years after the events in "Train To Busan." 

"It is an extension of 'Train To Busan,' after the virus has spread throughout Korea. However, the characters will not be the same. The sequel will share the same world view and is a zombie action film that deals with the aftermath in the peninsula."

Dong-Won will take on the role of Jung Suk, one of the last surviving people who will lead the fight against zombies. Jung Hyun, on the other hand, will play Min Jung -- a strong-willed character who will also be an essential force in the battle happening in a ruined peninsula.

Other cast members also include child actress Lee Re, who will be acting mainly alongside Jung Hyun, and Kwon Hae Hyo, whose role is a doctor who is also the eldest among the crew fighting in the peninsula.

Actors Kim Min Jae and Goo Kyo Hwan will meanwhile showcase their acting chops through playing military roles driven by their own ulterior motives.

"Bando," which began filming in the latter half of June, has big shoes to fill in with its predecessor achieving both critical and commercial success.

"Train To Busan," led by Hallyu star Gong Yoo, premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and held the record of becoming the first Korean movie to have been watched by 10 million moviegoers during the same year.

Worldwide, the zombie apocalypse film grossed around $93.1 million, topping the blockbuster lists in several countries including Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. 

The movie earned Sang-Ho a "Best New Director" trophy from the 2017 Baeksang Art Awards. 

Less than a month after the film's premiere, Sang-Ho also released an animated prequel titled "Seoul Station."
