EXO Kai Sheds Tears While Reading a Fan Letter During Solo Debut Livestream

On Monday, Nov. 30, EXO member Kai held a countdown through livestream for his anticipated solo debut. During the livestream, Kai burst into tears while reading a letter from a fan. Read more to find out what the letter said.

During the broadcast, Kai lovingly caught up with fans, updating him regarding what he is doing with his life and how he prepared for his solo debut with the title track "Mmmh." The EXO member then began to read messages from fans, which caused him to start getting teary-eyed.

Many EXO-Ls shared loving messages to Kai and expressed excitement for his solo debut. Some of them mentioned they had been supporting Kai for over eight years and vowed to continue to be on his side. They added that they grew up loving and looking up to him. Fans also talked about how Kai has grown so much and has remained cool and amazing throughout the years.

EXO-Ls sent messages telling the idol-actor that they will be with Kai through his fresh start and will cheer him on, just as they have before.

The messages of love and support appeared to be overwhelming for Kai. Choking back tears, Kai spoke about how he was a student when he debuted, and now he is releasing a solo album. He revealed that he is so happy to be able to spend this time with his fans.

However, one fan letter pushed Kai over the edge, causing him to burst out in uncontrollable tears.

The fan's letter reads:

"I am a third year in high school, and the happiest time of my life was when you appeared on 'I Live Alone'. I studied really hard the night prior just so I could watch you on the show. Since your song is coming out before my college entrance exam, I think your track will help me study hard for it. Whenever I see videos of you, it relieves me from the stress of studying. I am relieved that I have someone like you during my time as a student. I hope that is what EXO-L means to you, as well. I hope you succeed. And if you can, I hope you can wish me luck on my exam."

Kai burst into tears as he read the fan's letter. The EXO member did his best to compose himself and could only get out one short reply: "Good luck."

On July 3, SM Entertainment announced that Kai would be releasing his first-ever solo album and would most likely be releasing it by the second half of 2020. On Nov. 11, it was then announced that Kai would debut with his first-ever mini-album, "Kai (开)." The mini-album dropped on Monday, Nov. 30, with the lead single "Mmmh."

"Kai (开)" features six songs. The physical album is available in seven different versions - three photobook versions, three Jewel case versions, and one flipbook version. The other tracks on the song are "Nothing on Me," "Reason," "Ride or Die," "Amnesia', and "Hello Stranger."

"Mmmh" is an R&B pop song with a minimalistic, simple yet addictive melody. The song is described to be a charming and straight-forward, outgoing love song.
