NCT's 'Resonance Pt. 1' One of Billboard's Top-Selling Albums for First Week of January 2021

Although it has already been months since the release of NCT's "Resonance Pt. 1" last year, the studio album continues to sell more this 2021, particularly in the United States - this only proves the boy group's immense popularity outside of their home country.

On Jan. 5, Billboard revealed the five top-selling albums for the first week of January 2021, and only one K-pop album is included - it is none other than NCT's "Resonance Pt. 1." The studio album is placed at No. 2 on the ranking. Because of the continuing sales, it claimed the No. 5 spot on both Billboard's Top Album Sales chart and Top Current Album Sales charts for the week ending Jan. 2.

The album is already in its tenth week on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, and in its eleventh week on the Top Current Album Sales chart. Last week, the studio album was at No. 93 on the first chart, while it was at No. 45 on the second one.

"Resonance Pt. 1" is the first part of NCT's second studio album "NCT 2020 Resonance," with the second part being "Resonance Pt. 2." The album is the output of their "NCT 2020" project that is similar to their "NCT 2018" project in which all of the sub-units of the boy band collaborate for one full-length album, titled "NCT 2018 Empathy."

Launched in October 2020, NCT's "Resonance Pt. 1" features all four sub-units: NCT Dream, NCT 127, NCT U, and WayV, as well as the two new members, Sungchan and Shotaro, who are set to join a new NCT unit in the future. But, ahead of the official release of the album, it was revealed that it had reached more than 1.1 million pre-orders, making NCT an official million-seller without the repackaged version. Additionally, the album became the band's first chart-topper on the Gaon Album Chart.

"Resonance Pt. 1" contains a total of 13 songs, including the tracks "Make A Wish (Birthday Song)" and "From Home," as well as their English version and Korean version, respectively. These two songs were used to promote "Resonance Pt. 1," under the name of the group's rotating unit NCT U.

In particular, NCT members Taeyong, Jaehyun, Lucas, Doyoung, Xiaojun, Jaemin, and Shotaro were the ones who took part in the song. As for "From Home," the NCT members who participated were Taeil, Yuta, Haechan, Kun, Chenle, Doyoung, and Renjun.

Other sub-units of NCT also released singles for the album: "Déjà Vu" by NCT Dream, "Nectar" by WayV, and "Music, Dance" by NCT 127. "Déjà Vu" served as Mark's return to the group's "Dream" unit as he previously graduated from the group in accordance to the age-based graduation system of NCT Dream, in which members are removed from the unit after reaching the Korean age of 20.

Meanwhile, the other four top-selling albums belong to international celebrities, at No. 1 and No. 3 are Taylor Swift's "Evermore" and "Folklore," respectively; at No. 4 is Paul McCartney's "McCartney III" and at No. 5 is Harry Styles' "Fine Line."
