SNSD Taeyeon, SHINee Key Draw Attention After Handling 'Cigarette Incident' Smoothly
During a live broadcast, SNSD Taeyeon and SHINee Key suffered a "cigarette incident." However, how both idols handled the accusation says a lot about how they maintain a controversy-free career.
On February 23, sibling-like idols Taeyeon of Girls' Generation and SHINee Key appeared as guests on a YouTube live broadcast by YouTuber Haetnim, a popular mukbang BJ.
Here's what happened.

At one point during their recent live stream, more than 60,000 viewers gathered and watched the two singers and their vlogger friend do mukbang. Taeyeon had time to promote her new song "INVU" as well.
During their conversation, a series of comments stating that something like a cigarette was seen on the table started running.

The broadcast was doing great when Key was flustered yet confused when he found a comment posted in real-time, saying, "There is a comment that says 'I can see a cigarette'," and "Is that a pack of cigarette in the middle?"
With numerous comments pointing out that they can see a cigarette pack in the background, Taeyeon, Haetnim and Key started to look around, when the male idol realized that it was something else – making the whole studio filled with their laughter.
In reality, the "cigarette pack" seen was actually Taeyeon's album cassette tape version!

Key held up Taeyeon's album and laughed, "Is this a cigarette?" Haetnim then pointed out that it is probably because the younger gen doesn't know what cassette tape looks like.
Taeyeon added, "It looks too much like a cigarette. I didn't know either. Everyone, don't smoke, okay? It's not a cigarette pack, it's my album! Cassette tape version!"
As if making fun of the scenario, the SHINee member added to the laughter, mimicking how fans would buy Taeyeon's album from 7/11.
"When going to 7/11, please said, '1 pack of Taeyeon's 'INVU' album please, with lighter!"
In response, K-pop fans can't help but find the "cigarette incident" hilarious. On top of this, viewers also praised both idols for handling it so smoothly, before further speculations arise weren't they addressed it.
In the past, idols who were caught with cigarette packs or stick with them usually faced strong criticism. However, the idols who were in the industry for more than 14 years acted immediately, turning the almost huge controversy into a hilarious event.
On the other hand, Taeyeon made a comeback with her 3rd full album INVU on February 14. Immediately after her comeback, it has received a good response, not only taking the first place in the domestic album and music charts but also taking the first place in the iTunes Top Albums chart in 22 regions around the world.
