On June 4, 2020, Brand New Music announced that AB6IX member Lim Youngmin will halt his activities due to his DUI (driving under influence), which took place in the early hours of May 31. The agency detailed that Youngmin privately met up with acquaintances for drinks and used his own car to return to the dorm. On his way, he was caught drunk driving by the police and had his driver's license revoked.
Apart from getting his activities halted, Youngmin's DUI also resulted in AB6IX's comeback being postponed that time.

The night when Brand New Music announced his hiatus, AB6IX Youngmin posted a handwritten letter on the group's fan cafe to apologize for the incident. He said that he felt "pathetic" and that he is aware of his mistakes and is reflecting on his actions.

On June 8, just four days after announcing Lim's break from group activities, the company revealed that Youngmin will officially leave AB6IX.
Brand New Music said that they had a thorough discussion with Lim Youngmin and the idol eventually decided to withdraw from AB6IX to no longer cause harm to the band.

As a result, AB6IX was reorganized as a four-member boy group, with Woong, Donghyun, Woojin, and Daehwi as the remaining members. The group has since been carrying out activities as a quartet.
Youngmin, on the other hand, was still signed with Brand New Music but he remained inactive in the K-pop scene for sometime.

Following his departure from AB6IX, Youngmin seemed to have laid low as there were no more updates about him until October 2020 when it was reported that he will enlist in the military.

On Oct. 15, SPOTV News reported that Lim will begin his military service in November 2020. His agency Brand New Music confirmed this, saying that he will enlist as an active duty soldier without disclosing the date, location, and time.

On Nov. 3, the label announced that former AB6IX Youngmin entered the military training center that day. He will first receive basic training before serving as an active duty soldier.
