Back in April 2014, Korean media outlet TV Report released an exclusive report that included a few photos of Shindong on a date at IF Mall, a popular mall in Seoul. The Super Junior member was seen with Korean model Kang Shi Nae.

The two were photographed with their arms linked and strolling around in the mall. The two were all smiles and appeared to be unaware of their surroundings.
In a bookstore, Shindong bought a newly released album while Kang Shi Nae browsed through magazines.

According to TV Report, a representative at Super Junior's agency, SM Entertainment, told them that Shindong first met Kang Shi Nae through friends. They added that they recently became friends.
When asked about Shindong's relationship with his former girlfriend whom he had even proposed to, the SM rep carefully responded that the male idol had broken up with his ex-girlfriend one year ago.

In August 2015, Korean media outlet ET News reported that Super Junior Shindong and Kang Shi Nae are no longer in a relationship. They continued that the breakup is not recent. At the time the two went public with their relationship in April 2014, it was also the same month that they decided to end their relationship and remain as friends.
Model Kang Shi Nae told RPM9 over the phone, "After the first reports of our relationship, the attention and talk of our relationship was a burden." She added that Super Junior Shindong and her decided to support one another as they go their separate ways.
Following the news, a representative from SM Entertainment confirmed their breakup. They told OSEN, "It's true that the two are separated, they have already broken up."
Since then, there have been no reports about Super Junior Shindong being in a relationship.

It is said that Shindong's ideal type is a cute, short girl who can play drums. In the past, he named a female K-pop idol as his ideal type.
