On December 23, SPOTV News reported SM supergroup GOT the Beat will release a new song in January next year.
SM Entertainment stated in response to the news, how GOT the Beat will be preparing a comeback in 2023 and to anticipate the release.
"GOT the Beat is preparing for their comeback in January 2023. Please look forward to their comeback."
Back on January 3 this year, SM Entertainment started with a bang by debuting Girls On Top sub-unit GOT the Beat. The group consists of all-female members, featuring distinctive girl groups across SM's generations.
Its members consists of 4th generation female idols Winter and Karina from rookie monster group, aespa.
They are joined by Red Velvet members Seulgi and Wendy from Red Velvet, SM's prominent 3rd generation girl group.
For its 2nd gen members, they are followed by Taeyeon and Hyoyeon from SNSD, an iconic 2nd gen girl group who helped shape K-pop.
Lastly, they are joined by the legendary 1st generation idol BoA, commanding the stage with her charisma.

Fans and many Pink Bloods (SM stans) were stunned by how versatile the girl group is, and considered them one of the most well-rounded super groups ever made. They were also shocked by how much power and stage presence are all fused in one group.

SM Entertainment Called Out for GOT The Beat's Comeback Improvement
However, other fans expressed their concerns for the lyrics. Some suggested to give a better comeback with good lyrical context and shed unnecessary high notes for the song.
"I think the high note buffet of Step Back was warranted for the type of song and considering the supergroup they built are equipped with strong vocalists like Wendy, Seulgi, Winter, and Taeyeon. If it's a different genre, then yeah I hope its chiller on the high notes, but I'm sure at least Wendy and Taeyeon will still get high notes of some sort."
"I didn't listen to their previous song because of the lyrics, but I hope they get a good song this time. Please pay attention to the lyrics."
