'Youngest' Korean Girl Group With Members Aged 7 to 12 Draws Mixed Reactions

While a lot of K-pop enthusiasts think that debuting an idol at 13 is too young, wait until you hear about a girl group with members as young as seven years old!

Who Is chocofive? Members' Ages, Concept, Debut

In online communities and social media platforms, the Korean girl group chocofive is drawing massive attention for their ages.

In particular, the team, which is said to be Korea's youngest kids girl group is comprised of Eunyou, Hyein, Sihyun, Hayoon, Gabin, Yeseo and Siwoo. According to reports, the members' ages were 7 to 12 years old, shocking viewers.

In April last year, they made their debut by releasing it's first single and since then continued their activities by performing cover dances including LESSERAFIM's "ANTIFRAGILE", New Jeans' "Hype Boy," IVE's "After LIKE," Jessi, etc.

When their dance covers were unveiled, the number of views exploded, showing off the septet's powerful dancing skills, which makes it harder to believe that some of them were only elementary school students.

Aside from their skills, chocofive is also called a donation angel team because they have shown good influence through volunteer activities including school violence prevention campaigns and supporting homeless people. In fact, despite the freezing cold during Winter in December last year, the septet still visited the slums of Changshin-dong and Seoul Station to offer performances as well as share meal kits for the homeless.

With their rising popularity, the expectation of fans about their comeback single also increased. However, producer Noh Hyun Tae also put confidence in the group by saying:

"This chocofive activity will also bear a concept that appeals to good influence."

With this, people became more focused and excited to see the release of her new single containing two songs, "Stress Pappa" and "No, No," at noon on March 30.

They were also looking for a second-generation lineup, too.

People Think chocofive Members Were 'Too Young' To Debut– Do You Agree?

When the news circulated on SNS, it surely can't help to amass mixed reactions to the appearance of a group with a member as young as seven.

Ultimately, K-pop fans find the members' skills as strong as other fourth-gen teams. There's nothing particularly wrong about their outfits, makeup and looks as well, but people were mostly skeptical about their young ages, given how rough the music industry can take a toll on their mental health if not handled properly.

Netizens left comments stating:

  • "I feel like It will be fine if they are just doing dance covers for fun, but debuting in a girl group at the age of 7 is going overboard."
  • "They are way too young... Not only do they have to perform on their schedules, but they have to wear makeup, worse, even do diet at their age. It can affect their growth. We really need a law to ban literal children from debuting."

On the flip side, some netizens think that there's nothing wrong with the members and defended them that they can do and enjoy the things they love as long as they will not prioritize their performances over their education.
