Did You Know? THIS 2nd-Gen Idol Almost Became 'Boys Over Flowers' Gu Jun Pyo

Although this legendary male idol declined the iconic "Gu Jun Pyo" role, everyone agrees that he doesn't have to act like a handsome and wealthy guy for a drama since he's been already living like that in real life.

Who is he?

Super Junior Siwon Almost Played Lee Min Ho's 'Gu Jun Pyo' Role in 'Boys Over Flowers'

If you are a veteran K-drama and K-pop fan, or who has been a stan since the 2000s to early 2010s, it's impossible for you not to know or heard about the classic drama, "Boys Over Flowers"!

At the time, the drama was a huge hit and offered a huge contribution to the "Hallyu Wave." Among the big names who rose from the drama was, of course, the main lead Lee Min Ho, who solidified his acting career with his role as Gu Jun Pyo.

In the drama, Gu Jun Pyo (Lee Min Ho) is portrayed the handsome and campus popular son of a conglomerate family, and the leader of the squad F4, comprised of members who got it all — looks, intelligence and wealth.

Indeed, Lee Min Ho suited the role, but did you know that Super Junior Siwon was actually offered to play the role first?

In a broadcast of "Kiss the Radio" hosted by Leeteuk in 2016, the Super Junior leader revealed that Choi Siwon was actually the first pick to play the role of Gu Jun Pyo. Although it wasn't specified how and when it was pitched to him, but in the end, Siwon declined the role and Lee Min Ho was chosen.

During the broadcast, Leeteuk also teased his co-member and called him "stupid," implying the popularity Siwon could have enjoyed if he just took the opportunity.

However, it wasn't really a loss for Siwon, since the same year "Boys Over Flower" was aired in 2009, Super Junior also rose as the "Hallyu King" with their hit track "Sorry, Sorry."

Knowing Siwon's personality, he would surely pick his group's fame more than himself!

When this trivia became known, ELFs (Super Junior fandom) deemed it as not shocking. Considering Siwon's visuals, the idol definitely has the natural "Gu Jun Pyo" look, especially with his iconic long curly hair at the time.

Both he and the character boast tall height and cold appearance, while their smiles are charming.

Choi Siwon also won't have to try hard to act as if he belongs to the "elite" class, 'cause he was raised with a golden spoon. His father owns a famous pharmaceutical company, while his mother works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a high ranking.

His family is also one of the largest shareholders in the Hyundai Department Store, one of the biggest retail chains in South Korea.

According to unconfirmed reports, Siwon might have had royal blood in him as well, his father being a direct descendant of King Cheoljong while his mother is a descendant of King Hyojong of the Joseon Dynasty.

Although Gu Jun Pyo's rebellious personality is nothing alike Siwon, who's known for being well-mannered on and off cam, people still believe he would surely fit in for the role of being a young master.
