Famous Singer-Songwriter's Son Rumored To Debut in SM Entertainment New Boy Group

According to various Korean media outlets on July 18, it was reported that singer-songwriter Yoon Sang's eldest son, Lee Chan Young, will debut as a member of SM Entertainment's upcoming boy group.

Earlier this month, it was initially announced that SM is preparing to debut a rookie boy group in September.

Recently, the prospective members were also spotted returning to Korea after successfully filming their debut song's music video in LA.

According to the photos taken by fans and media, the group will be comprised of former NCT Shotaro and Sungchan, as well as SMROOKIES Eunseok and Seunghan.

Just then, a speculation stated that Lee Chan Young is one of them.

K-media's reports:

"Lee Chan Young will make his debut as a member of SM (new boy group) this summer. Detailed information about him is expected to be released later."

Following the news, the media and K-pop fans were quick to dig for more information about the rumored new face in SM Entertainment.

As per research, Lee Chan Young, mononymously called Chanyoung, is a Korean-American born in 2003, and is the eldest son of Yoon Sang and his wife Shim Hye Jin.

Due to his father being a record producer, singer, songwriter and music professor, Chanyoung made his face known in the entertainment industry after making an appearance on SBS's entertainment program, "Single Wife 2," in 2018.

At the time of his appearance on the show, he received attention for his tall height and visuals.

When his photos were shared online, people expressed high expectations due to his impressive visuals suiting SM.

Not only his visuals drew attention but his background as well. It was revealed that Lee, prior to dreaming to become an idol, is a former junior swimmer aspirant who began taking swimming lessons at the age of five.

He has been prominent since he was 10 years old and has won awards in various competitions.

Lee Chanyoung even showed outstanding competence, ranking 10th overall in the U.S. 13-year-old swimming category.

After being away from the entertainment scene for a few years, it was revealed that during that time, Lee was training as an SM trainee and was aiming to debut as a K-pop idol. It was said he has a potential when it comes to songwriting, just like his father.

Regarding this, SM Entertainment made a brief statement.

"We will reveal more details on the new boy group on August 1. Please look forward to it."
