"Seven" is now hit by plagiarism accusations.

On August 22, a Korean media outlet disclosed that the producers for Jungkook's solo debut track "Seven" have been struck with plagiarism accusations.

"Seven" was reportedly composed by five producers including Latto, Theron Makiel Thomas, Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, and Jon Bellion.

According to sources, the aforementioned producers were accused of allegedly "borrowing" a scale sequence from "Time of Mask," a song from legendary girl group Fin K.L. "Time of Mask" was released in the year 2000 and is a B-side from the group's album "S.P.E.C.I.A.L."

An anonymous official who's familiar with the situation stated:

"It has been confirmed that the scale of Jungkook's 'Seven' and Fin K.L's 'Time of Mask' have melodies that can be considered identical, and this melody was composed by numerous foreign composers.

I'm fully aware that some well-known Korean composers have also voiced out their take on the song and concluded that they are identical."

"Time of Mask" was also composed by producer Yang Joon Young. It was also revealed the producer had sent an evaluation request to HYBE in order to address the scale sequence of "Seven."

However, reports stated that HYBE sent an informal response saying that the issue cannot be resolved just yet since Bang Si Hyuk, HYBE's chairman, is currently on a business trip in the United States.

Regarding its similarities, the accusations mostly refer to the chorus part of Fin K.L's "Time of Mask" and the opening second verse of Jungkook's "Seven." The similarities are debatable, but it's up to listeners what to decide.
