Girl Group Outfits, Could It Get Any Worse?

"Could it get any worse than this?"

That was an online comment by an ordinary citizen, appalled by the recent trend of girl group outfits going for more provocative, more shocking looks. It goes without saying that the driving force behind the popularity of idol groups has largely been due to visual effects. Their looks, fashion and performances all strive for more unique and spectacular elements that will continue to wow the viewers. But these days, there is growing voice that is concerned over whether the society has any standards remaining that divides sexy from vulgar.

Dal Shabet and Girl's Day made their comebacks in recent weeks. There have been a slew of articles about them, mostly their outfits on stage. Dal Shabet has sported a skirt that is no longer than several inches with even shorter hot pants underneath. Swinging their hips, they sing "Look at my legs, they are pretty."

Girl's Day's outfits are no less shocking. They almost appear as if they only have underwear on, fully exposing their legs. As such, their outfits have been dubbed 'panties fashion.' Plus, their choreography includes leaning over to one side, which reveals much of their legs and more.

Idol artists, whether they want to or not, exert heavy influence on teenagers because they often look up to their favorite artists and imitate them. Lee Seung Chul recently took his frustration to Twitter, saying "Bare legs, panty teasers, naked-looking outfits? That is not a right way to go about a career."

Many Internet users are voicing their opinions, commenting "We cannot restrict the realm of creativity but there needs to be a line no one should cross."
