K-Pop Stars Send Condolences To Victims Of Asiana Flight 214: Crash Killed 2 Teens And Injured Over 100 Passengers And Crew

On Saturday, an Asiana Boeing 777 that had flown 11 hours from Seoul, South Korea, crashed into the runway at San Francisco International Airport, killing two teenagers from China and injuring more than half of the 307 passengers and crew.

Asiana Airlines spokeswoman Lee Hyomin told the Los Angeles Times on Monday that while pilot Lee Gang Guk had spent over 10,000 hours flying other types of planes, when it came to the Boeing 777 aircraft he only had 43 hours of experience.

Flight 214 was reportedly a training flight for Lee on the Boeing 777.

Although officials in the US and South Korea are still investigating what led to the crash, initial reports indicate the plane did not approach the runway at the proper speed.

"The [Boeing 777's] speed was significantly below [the target speed of] 137 knots, and we're not talking a few knots," National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman told the Associated Press on Sunday.

Asiana Airlines cabin manager Lee Yoon Hye recalls feeling the plane appear to pull back.

''Right before touchdown, I felt like the plane was trying to take off. I was thinking 'what's happening?'" the cabin manager recalled.

"And then I felt a bang. That bang felt harder than a normal landing. It was a very big shock. Afterward, there was another shock and the plane swayed to the right and to the left."

As news of the incident spread across South Korea many of the country's biggest stars issued their condolences for the victims of the plane crash on Twitter.

"Hope everyone that was injured on that plane makes a quick recovery," tweeted Jay Park. "[My] heart goes out to the lost ones."

Eric Nam also expressed his support and condolences for all of those affected.

"Praying for everyone affected by the Asiana flight," Nam wrote. "God bless."

Gaeko of the group Dynamic Duo, who cancelled a scheduled performance on the Seoul Broadcasting System show "Inkigayo" because of the tragic plane crash, said he was hoping for the best.

"I hope there isn't a lot of harm," Gaeko wrote.

His bandmate Choiza, also sent his sympathies.

"We send our condolences," he wrote.

But not all of the online messages from K-pop stars were completely positive.

Singer Ivy had to apologize on Sunday for a comment she had posted to her Instagram account out of frustration over possibly being bumped from the same "Inkigayo" broadcast, that some fans felt was insensitive, according to CJ E&M enewsWorld.

"Inkigayo is cutting 12 minutes because of the Asiana plane crash and I′m probably going to be cut out, with a 99 percent probability. Darn," Ivy wrote.

The comment was later removed from the site.

"I′m so sorry. I didn′t mean that, but it was a thoughtless thing to say," Ivy wrote.

"I didn′t delete the comment. I just reuploaded the post itself because I looked so thoughtless. I′m sorry."
