Fantasy K-Pop Collab: Dynamic Duo + Kanye West

Each week Fantasy K-Pop Collab puts a Korean artist together with an international act in a hypothetical collaboration. Inspiration for the match up comes from all sorts of places - fan recommendations, Twitter, other members of the media, and so on.

This week's installment is particularly special because the fantasy collaboration came directly from the artist.

In a recent interview with KpopStarz, Dynamic Duo were asked if there was a singer or rapper they had not yet worked with, but would like to.

Choiza responded, "I'd love to work with Kanye West." And the reason he gave for the hopeful collaboration was that, "Throughout his career he's always raised the standard for hip-hop music."

Interestingly enough, the same has been said of Dynamic Duo and their career.

Just back with their seventh full-length album LUCKYNUMBERS, the hip-hop pair have seen immense success since their debut album Taxi Driver in 2004.

The initial album received critical acclaim and became the best-selling hip-hop album of the year, kickstarting Dynamic Duo's career. The latest project continues on the path started nearly a decade ago, and immediately following its release on July 1, rose to the top of the Korean music charts.

As one of the most notable rap groups in the Korean music industry, Choiza and Gaeko have worked with a long list of talented artists and are often counted among the musical inspirations of their peers.

Kanye West also made his grand entrance into the mainstream hip-hop scene in 2004 with his debut album The College Dropout.

While first getting his start in the music industry, West worked as a producer, but his debut album pulled him away from the pack with his poignant lyrics and flawless delivery.

Since then, Kanye West, and his Korean counterparts, have continued to raise the bar for quality hip-hop music.

So, what of this fantasy collaboration? Many times the likely route is to have the hypothetical project done in English. This way the artists and fans are best able to address that pesky language barrier.

However, Dynamic Duo feels that their language is an essential part of their music, and that point is very hard to argue with.

"We use English in some parts of our lyrics," explained Choiza. "But I don't know if we'll ever make a song that's completely in English. I think us rapping in Korean is actually one of the reasons that make us unique and stand out."

Gaeko agreed, saying, "I don't think there is a specific Korean style of hip-hop that differs from the States. I believe that simply through the language difference, Korean hip-hop stands out and is unique."

Staying true to themselves and their music is just one of the many reasons why these guys garner so much respect from their fans and the industry as a whole, and that is definitely not something to be taken lightly.

"For us, we always make sure that our music is made naturally and that none of it sounds artificial," added Gaeko.

So, for the Dynamic Duo-Kanye West match-up, it only seems natural for, first, these guys to get together and hang out - to get a feel for each other, to develop a bond.

Then, it would be cool to see what kind of stuff they could come up with together. A sick Kanye verse featured on a Dynamic Duo track? Sounds awesome.

Recording and releasing it would be cool in its own right, but how about taking it a step further to include the realization of Choiza's dream?

"I would love to perform in Brazil during the World Cup!" he revealed. "Strongly hoping for this to become a reality."

Imagine Korea's most popular hip-hop duo sharing the stage with one of America's most notorious rappers at the biggest sporting event in the world.

We agree with Choiza. Strongly hoping for this to become a reality.
