Review: Like Dracula On MDMA, 'Love Sick' By TAHITI Is Spooky, Danceable And Mean [VIDEO]

Horror film imagery seems to be all the rage right now in K-pop, with music videos from BEAST's Shadow' to EXO's "Wolf" borrowing heavily from the iconography of the classic genre.

But sometimes a video is more haunting without the most cutting edge computerized gore graphics, and more affecting also.

Although the music video for the song "Love Sick" from TAHITI's "Five Beats of Hearts" album, released on Thursday, is mostly just the five members of the girl group dancing in what appears to be an old ballroom, there is something haunting about the video and also the song it was made for.

Like Dracula on the raver drug MDMA, the song possesses an evil melancholy while still kicking out an undeniably strong dance groove.

Although many of the songs on "Five Beats of Hearts" have an overly bombastic quality that makes them a little hard to take (almost like that guy at the club who won't stop chattering in your ear) songwriter Red Rocket has found a musical backdrop for the band that is both original and as sonically satisfying as anything the group has released in the year since they formed.

Opening with an orchestral string segment straight from Hollywood horror, "Love Sick" quickly kicks into a strong backbeat.

But what separates "Love Sick" from the rest of the songs on "Five Beats of Hearts" is that when the beat does kicks in it doesn't destroy either the eerie energy that makes the song so interesting, or sabotage the lyrical, hypnotic quality of the singing.

The moment of the "Love Sick" video that has and will probably continue to receive the most attention, is one of the synchronized dance sequences where the members of TAHITI tear away their dresses to reveal smaller dresses and then tear away the smaller dresses to reveal even skimpier outfits.

And while it is difficult for anyone who favors the female form to object to less clothing on the women of TAHITI, that moment is the least interesting thing, at least artistically, about the song or the video "Love Sick."

In depicting a girl's revenge fantasy on a lecherous lover, the video and song strays into emotionally poignant moments, in ways that can surprise you, just like a great horror movie.
