K-POP World Highlight: With Just Two Years, Hallyu Takes Over Europe

The vast rapid spread of Korean Wave or hallyu cannot be ignored by anyone in any place. From South Korea to Asia and now crossing the shores of Europe, K-pop has really been proving to be a genre and not just a music trend.

It all began with "Jumong," airing in Europe in the year 2010, attracting over 800,000 viewers in Romania, making learn briefly, the language and the culture and then later the music. Though not all countries in Europe knew Hallyu at that time, the real rise of Korean music blew out in 2011, when SM Entertainment held a fan meeting for Shinee's fans and announced that Paris, France was the next stop for SM's all-star concert, "SM Town Live," drawing 14,000 fans. It was also that year when BIGBANG won an award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, making them the first South Korean band to win. And so they say, the rest was history.

The year 2012 made K-pop stand to where it is today. With concerts from Super Junior, BIGBANG, 2NE1 and Junsu, that year was not just an introduction to K-pop but an experience for the European fans.

This year, K-pop proved to be a triumph, with again holding concerts and tours for South Korean artists. With Turkey, bridging the gap of the thirsty European K-pop fans, thousands of people attended the star fair in the recently held Music Bank in Istanbul. Not only that, Korean artists have been recognize in the land of the 'great potential' thus, giving actor, Choi Min Sik a chance to showcase his acting talent in France for the film "Lucy."

Absolutely, Hallyu has made its way overseas, making South Korea a dream destination to the people in Europe with all the recognitions Korean artists have been receiving. Therefore, Europe is not just Europe but "Hallyu-rope."
