K-Pop Destinations: Jeju Island

While Jeju Island is known for its dramatic views of seaside cliffs, kdrama lovers may be more interested in the island's filming locations.

The island has been featured in "Boys Over Flowers," "Secret Garden," "Dae Jang Geum" and "Princess Hours" just to name a few. It's where Yoon Eun Hye goes to escape her boyfriend in "Lie to Me" and where the modeling scenes in the park were filmed in "Personal Taste." There's plenty of travel information online about how to get to the island but once you do, here are some places to savor kdrama atmosphere.

The Hyatt Regency hotel is located on a sloping cliff overlooking the ocean. But it's private balconies with ocean views will seem mundane when you discover the pool where F4 leader Gun Jun Pyo almost drowned or the triangular wedding chapel from the "Boys Over Flowers" wedding scene. The hotel's address is 114 Jungmungwangwang-ro 72, beon-gil, Seogwipo. For more information, call +82 64 733 1234 or visit https://jeju.regency.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html

Or you could stay at The Seas Hotel and Resort. Remember the "Secret Garden" scene where Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin are sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean? That was filmed at the resort. Ditto for the Crown Prince's birthday party in "Princess Hours." And F4 also vacationed there in "Boys Over Flowers." The five-star hotel is located at 2563-1, Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo. For more information, call or visit www.seaes.co.kr/ or call 82 64-735-3000.

If you fell in love with the Teddy Bear Museum, while watching "Princess Hours," it's a fun place to visit, especially if you're traveling with younger family members. There are designer bears, antique bears and teddy bear tableaus that Yoon Eun Hye viewed when her princess character traveled there with the Queen Mother.

The museum is located at 31 Jungmungwangwang-ro 110 beon-gil, Seogwipo-si. It's open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. during mid-July to August. For more information, call +82 64 738 7600 or visit https://www.teddybearmuseum.co.kr/

Another popular drama site is the island's Traditional Folk Village Museum, which was seen in the saeguk "Dae Jang Geum." There you can explore the customs you see in so many historical kdramas. Squint and you can imagine yourself in "Gu Family Book" or "Faith: The Great Doctor." The address is 631-34 Minsokhaean-ro, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-Si. For more information, call +82 64 787 4501 2 or visit https://visitkorea.or.kr/
